Crime Stoppers in Action – August

As students all over the Greater Houston Area returned to school, Crime Stoppers focused on our children’s safety at school and concentrated our year-round efforts to reach out to Houston’s citizens with important and valuable information about how to keep them safe while at school.

We kicked off the month by hosting our Annual Campus Based Safety Summit held at the Harris County Department of Education. Over 85 school law enforcement and community leaders gathered to learn about important school safety changes and updates for the upcoming school year. Our program managers stayed busy attending numerous outreach events and connecting with families, students and community partners, educating them on all issues related to school safety.
We are so grateful for our media partners, like The Buzz Magazines and KHOU Great Day Houston, who helped us disseminate our message to the community at large. If you missed Executive Director Rania Mankarious’ Great Day Houston interview on the ‘Top 5 conversations you should have with your children’, click here to view it!

On August 23rd, Crime Stoppers proudly announced a NEW Student Ambassador School Program in partnership with Houston City Council Member District A Brenda Stardig. The program will promote and sustain safety in schools. Read more about it here!

And last but not least, we had the pleasure of meeting Marshall the Miracle Dog and had the opportunity to discuss his story and the importance of anti-animal cruelty with connections to bullying among youth. Click here for this special story!

After being featured by Crime Stoppers of Houston as a most wanted child predator, Houston rapper Calderon Texada was arrested late last month. In 2013, he offered  a minor a ride to school, but then took her to a nearby apartment where he sexually assaulted her. We are glad he is off our streets now!
