Crime Stoppers and Verizon partner to raise awareness and end domestic violence
Verizon has been a supporter of Crime Stoppers for the past five years, and this Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we were proud to present a $15,000 grant to the organization to support the “Safe Community” domestic violence awareness initiative (pictured above). The initiative commenced with a Safe Community Seminar connecting advocates from across the region, working to raise awareness and end domestic violence. Additionally, with Verizon’s support, Crime Stoppers will help bring domestic violence perpetrators to justice.
In addition, Verizon maintains the HopeLine program year round to collect no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories to be refurbished and delivered to domestic violence agencies.
These repurposed devices are distributed among survivors of domestic violence and serve as their own personal lifeline. Funds generated through the HopeLine program are donated to agencies throughout the year to support their ongoing work to end domestic violence.
Since 2001, the HopeLine program has collected more than 11.4 million phones nationwide, donated more than $29 million in grants and provided more than 190,000 phones with wireless service to domestic violence organizations nationwide.
To join the cause and support HopeLine as the program strives to reach 1 million phone donations by the end of 2015, you can:
- Drop off your no-longer-used phones and accessories at any Verizon store for the HopeLine program
- Hold a HopeLine Phone Drive within your schools, communities and work places to collect phones and raise awareness
- Volunteer at a local domestic violence agency
