James OrtizCrime Stoppers and the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division need the public's assistance identifying the suspect(s) responsible for Capital Murder.
On Friday, July 2, 1999, the complainant, James Ortiz, was sleeping inside of a car in the 6800 block of Winton Street in Houston, Texas. At approximately 3:34 a.m., Ortiz’s friend heard a gunshot. The friend then got out of bed, looked outside, and saw Mr. Ortiz’s vehicle driving away. The friend also observed Mr. Ortiz lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound. Ortiz died as a result of his injuries.
Shortly thereafter, a citizen observed Mr. Ortiz’s vehicle pull into a driveway in the 2800 block of Bostic Street. This location is approximately ½ mile from the murder scene. Next, the citizen observed a black male running from the vehicle, holding an unknown colored shirt.
Suspect: Black male, unknown age, 5’09” – 5’11”, slim build, wearing dark pants and holding an unknown colored shirt.
