On Thursday June 7th, 2007 at around 6:15 in the morning Carlos David Berdeguez was driving his white Chevy pickup truck in the southbound lanes of the North Loop East just north of I-10. He was shot in the chest by an unknown suspect causing him to lose control of his truck. His truck hit the center retaining wall, swerved across the freeway and struck the retaining wall twice more before coming to a stop in the 3200 block of the North Loop East just south of I-10. Officers arriving at the scene found his passenger side window shattered and Mr. Berdeguez dead inside his truck.
