On Saturday October 10, 2009 Luis and his girlfriend arrived at their apartment in the 5500 block of Clarewood at 1:30 in the morning after visiting with family. His girlfriend began walking their dog in the courtyard while he stayed in the breezeway. While in the courtyard, she was approached by 4 black males. The first 3 walked past her but as the last one walked by her he grabbed for her purse. She struggled with the suspect over the purse. She fell back into the bushes as the suspect ran off toward the breezeway. She heard multiple gunshots and saw the 4 black males run off. She ran to the breezeway where she discovered Luis had been shot several times. He died in her arms at the scene.
