At approximately 1:40 a.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008, Simone McNair was standing on the balcony of her apartment at 10910 Gulf Freeway, talking on her phone. An unidentified Black male approached her and then shot her with a handgun. Witnesses heard Simone and the suspect arguing as he went through her pockets. The suspect then shot Simone in the head, killing her before leaving with all her belongings, including her cell phone. The suspect was described as a Black male, 5?7? tall, about 165-175 pounds. He wore a black long-sleeved hoodie, long blue jean shorts, and black tennis shoes. The suspect shot at one of the witnesses as he fled the scene.
