On January 18, 2011, at 5:43am, a pedestrian was crossing the street in the 8000 block of Fannin. The pedestrian, Edgardo Martinez, stopped to wait for the train to pass. As Mr. Martinez waited for the train, he stood in a lane of traffic. A vehicle driving south on Fannin struck Mr. Martinez, causing him to be thrown into the side of the passing train. The train stopped. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and continued to drive south on Fannin. Mr. Martinez, age 41, died as a result of his injuries. The vehicle appeared to be a small SUV, resembling a Nissan Murano. It is possibly gray in color and would have damage to the front right of the vehicle, including a broken headlight.
