On January 8, 2006, around 3:00 am, 19-year old Rene Cortinas, Jr. and his friends were driving south bound on North Main. As they drive through an intersection in the 1800 block of North Main they passed a light gray or brown 1998-2000 4-door Cheverolet Malibu with no license plate. Someone in the Malibu discharged a pistol five times into the vehicle that Rene was a passenger. Rene was struck on the left side and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
