Overview : January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Crime Stoppers of Houston invites you to a FREE seminar and training to learn more about human trafficking, ways to protect your family and what key community partners are doing to combat the suffering caused by trafficking of men, women, and children right here at home. Seminar: 11:30am - 1:00pm open to the community Training: 1:30pm - 4:00pm for school staff, counselors, administrators and school-based law enforcement *Please specify in your RSVP if you would like to sign up for the training. Overview : During this free seminar, you will have the opportunity to learn about the different types of cruelty, abuse and neglect; how to recognize it, what to do if you suspect cruelty, the laws that are in place to protect the animals in our community, and upcoming legislative efforts. Featuring: - Harris County Precinct 5 Animal Crimes Unit Sergeant Charles Jantzen - Harris County Assistant District Attorney, Animal Cruelty Section Chief Jessica Milligan - Members of the Rescue Community The event will also provide an overview of the Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce which was launched a year ago to streamline the process of where and how animal cruelty can be reported by providing a one-stop centralized way to report without having to call around to find who should take the report of abuse. Created by the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, be nice.® is a mental health education, bully and suicide prevention initiative that creates a positive cultural change through simply daily actions. Through a four-part action plan, participants learn how to notice those around you, invite change, challenge yourself and others to be kind and empower yourself to take action. Become a be nice.® Facilitator be nice.® presentations are available for students ages Pre-K - 12th grade. Due to the high demand of these presentations and our limited Safe School staff, we are seeking volunteers to help present to our younger Elementary school groups (Pre-K – 5th grade). Elementary presentations are 30 minutes long. The facilitator will read an illustrated book to explain the four-part action plan and lead the group in a set of activities that further demonstrates how students can notice, invite, challenge and empower their peers.
