Persistent Tipster Helps Nab Arsonist
On October 11, 2019 a suspect was seen on video setting fire to a palm tree which quickly spread to a fence that was connected to a local restaurant. A tipster contacted the tip line and provided information on a person that had been seen walking in the same area. They stated that they did not know the suspect but recognized his face from a Crime Stoppers flyer. 17 The tipster followed the suspect’s walking route as they drove and relayed real time information to the Crime Stoppers investigator. With the tipster on one line our investigator was then able to pass the information along to dispatch for patrol to make contact. Officers were able to identify the suspect and found that he had two open city warrants. The suspect was arrested on the open warrants while our investigator was still on the phone with them. The suspect was later charged with the arson case.
