Woman Scams Adoption Agency

In November 2023, an adoption agency reached out to law enforcement to report an elaborate $11,000 scam. The suspect posed as a 31-week pregnant woman intending to place her baby for adoption. When asked for identification and documentation, she claimed her ID had been stolen and promised to provide the necessary paperwork. Meanwhile, she began requesting financial assistance and other support from the agency. As the supposed due date approached, the suspect’s demands escalated, and she repeatedly changed her delivery date, raising suspicion. Concerned, the agency searched the name she provided on Facebook and discovered a startling truth: the ultrasound images and pregnancy test she had shared were posted on someone else’s profile. Investigators interviewed the suspect, who offered conflicting information and multiple due dates. Charges were filed, but she remained at large until a tip revealed her location. Ultimately, the suspect was arrested, took a plea deal, and was sentenced to two years in a state jail.
